One of Europe’s smallest countries, but that doesn’t mean it has less to offer!
Luxembourg City is the capital of the very small country Luxembourg, located in the heart of Europe. It has a very central location, and yet few people think of visiting it! Maybe this is because there are few things known about this city, and people don’t know what the city has to offer. Therefore, you can get all the information you need about the city if you just keep reading!

History and architecture

Luxembourg is a beautiful city, with a lot of history and things to see. If you are interested in history and architecture, the old town of Luxembourg is something for you. The fortifications in the old town of Luxembourg is actually a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage. Here you can find an interesting mix of architectural styles, and you can learn about the interesting history of Luxembourg.


If you like a more modern and cultural vibe, the Kirchberg Plateau is the place to go. Here you will find modern architecture, art galleries, like MUDAM Museum of Modern Art, and the Philharmonie, which is the home of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Nature and castles

Overall, Luxembourg is a very green city, with a lot of nature. It is filled with trees and parks, where you can sit down, relax and take in the surroundings.

The Grand Ducal Palace is located in the middle of Luxembourg City. This palace is used by the Grand Duke as a base.

If you want to visit the countryside, Vianden is the perfect place to go. This is a small town, with beautiful surroundings, as well as a large castle. Vianden Castle was built between the 11th and 14th century.

How to get there?

Because Luxembourg is situated so central in Western-Europe, it is very easy to get there from some surrounding countries, like Belgium, Germany and France.
Did you know that Paris is only 372 km from Luxembourg? This means that it takes just over two hours on the train! Additionally, the city is close to other large cities, like Brussels (216 km) and Cologne (233 km). Thus, if you live in one of these countries, you have no excuse not to visit this beautiful city!

However, if you live a bit further away, there is also the option to fly. Luxembourg Airport is located just outside the city. This airport welcomes many flights each week. Especially Luxembourg’s own airline company, Luxair, connects Luxembourg with many European cities.

1. Try the Luxembourg cuisine. The food in Luxembourg is influenced by its neighbouring countries, like Germany, Belgium and France. However, they also have their own traditional dishes, like Kniddelen (looks a bit like dumplings), Bouneschlupp (a soup with various vegetables and meat) and Judd mat Gaardebounen (smoked collar of pork, served with beans and potatoes)


2. Buy a Visit Luxembourg pass. This pass gives discount for different attractions and public transport.


3. Bring good walking shoes. In Luxembourg you will probably walk a lot, between different attractions and areas. Therefore, it is smart to have a good pair of walking shoes!
